Come and join our fun on 21st January 2006! (issued on 14th January 2006)

The College will be celebrating the Grand Opening of the School Development Phase I & II and hold the Fun Fair 2006 on Saturday, 21st January, 2006. Our Chief Executive, Mr. Donald Tsang, will be the Guest of Honour to officiate the Grand Opening of the New Annex at 9:00a.m. The ceremony will be following by a light refreshment reception for our Donors in the Hall, tree-planting by our Chief Executive, blessing of the Annex by our Supervisor Fr. Deignan, S.J. and there will also be lots of stall games, performances and most important of all, fun! Of course there will be guided tours by our Campus Ambassadors at regular hours, and there will also be a lot of souvenirs! So, friends and members of the extended Wah Yan Community, do come (9:00a.m. to 5:00p.m.) and enjoy the fun with us together!

Hi Anthony,I am now back to Vancouver and noticed from my mailbox that you have started a blog for our class. In fact, I have an issue which I would like to discuss with our classmates which could make the best use of your blog. If you couldlet me know how I could get into the blog , then I could talk to our classmates direct , otherwise I have to rely on you to pass on the message. The issue I have in hand is the kind of gesture our class as a whole should support the IC 2006 in Vancouver. I sit on the Organising Committee and have been informed of the details which I want to relay to classmates first-handso that they could consider coming to Vancouver themselves or with theirfamilies next August.

One of the first issues to be resolved is whether our class should place an advertisement in the IC2006 program. This is a way to raise money to pay forsome of the expenses incurred in organising the conference. The cost involvesis C$250 for an A4 page or C$130 for half a page. Of course, individual classmates can place ads. of their own but collectively to show our solidality, I think we should place an one page ad. in the name of the class71'. As such, I suggest we advise classmates of this opportunity and seektheir contributions to foot the cost of the ad.Since we cannot predict the amount of contributions to be received, I suggest we set out some criteria of recognition. Classmates are free to contribute any amount but for thosewho contribute HK$200 or more , they will be named in the ad. Classmates making contributions below this amount will not be named individually but grouped under 'Others'. Those who do not want to be named will be groupedinto 'Anonymous'.

I hope these arrangements could satify everyone. While I can act as the overall co-ordinator and collector in Vancouver, I need your help to liase with thoseclassmates in HK. Simon Tam has agreed to recieve contributions from thosein Toronto. Those outside HK and Canada can pass their contributions directto you. The reason being, if there is a surplus to C$250, and I believe therewill be, you can arrange to donate the surplus amount direct to Wah Yan. At the end of the collection, we'll publish an account showing where the contributions have gone together with receipts so that everyone involved knows the result. I have generally discussed and worked out the above arrangements with Simon and would like to know your views as well as other addressees before publicising the appeal. I've deliberately set a lower contribution of HK$200 which should beaffordable to all classmates but if we as a whole (you, Simon , other addressees and I, for example ) could take the lead to donate say HK$500 each, I believe many others will follow suit and the sum for donation to WahYan will be more sizeable making our collective efforts in this drive more meaningful. Afterall, we have not collectively made any significantcontribution to Wah Yan lately and I believe many classmates would like todo so. Can you discuss with some classmates in HK before we publicse thisappeal ? Views from other addressees are also welcome.

The Year of the Rooster is indeed a prosperous one. The economy is picking up and people are spending again. With the IC2004 Conference and the 85th and 80th anniversaries celebrations behind us, the 2 Wah Yan Colleges are gearing up for the openings of their respective building additions to their school campuses. Meanwhile our beloved Dr. the Rev. Fr. Alfred Deignan, S.J. is adding one more feather in his cap as the new Supervisor of Wah Yan College, Kowloon, upon the departure of our respected Rev. Fr. George Zee, S.J. who will concentrate more on his pastoral work. A special party will be held for Fr. Deignan, both as a celebration of his new appointment and of his 78th birthday this March. This party will be held as follows:
